The Getty Center is known for its breathtaking views of Los Angeles, its unique architecture, and its tranquil gardens.  The Getty Center’s J. Paul Getty Museum boasts an extensive collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present.  Admission into the Getty Center and its exhibits is free!

Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is a famous Los Angeles landmark.  The observatory has 60 exhibits centered on space-related themes and houses the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.  Many tourists also come to this landmark because its location on the slope of Mt. Hollywood lends itself to spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign.  Admission into the observatory exhibits is free; however, there is a small price to see the daily shows in the planetarium.

The La Brea Tar Pits, a 40,000 year old pool of hot tar, is a unique attraction in the center of Los Angeles.  It is a rich excavation site for fossils of Ice Age animals that were unlucky enough to get caught in tar pits.  The next-door Page Museum displays an impressive collection of archeological finds from site.  Admission is $7 for adults; $4.50 for seniors 62 and over, Students with ID, and youths 13-17; $2 for children 5-12, and free for children 5 and under.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

This famous attraction covers 18 blocks of sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.  This monument commemorates those who contributed to the entertainment industry in the areas of film, television, audio recording, radio, and theater.  Bronze stars embedded in the sidewalk bear the names of those who have reached greatness.  So far there are over 2,400 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Farmers Market is open daily and is historic Los Angeles landmark.  Enjoy the relaxed outdoor atmosphere as you try a wide variety of ethnic cuisine while browsing the souvenir shops and fresh produce stands.  Two hour parking is free with validation. 

L.A. County Fair

The world’s largest fair will be held from September 4-October 3 about 30 miles outside downtown Los Angeles in Pomona, California.  The fair has something for everyone including: traditional fair rides and games, parades, concerts, and even horseracing.  Admission prices vary; please see the website for more details.
